To me, summer screams white dresses.
I have more than my fair share and it pains me they’re not approporiate to wear to weddings! Last week, if you follow me on Twitter, you might’ve seen I did a little collab with Laura Ashley for their blog. I love working with brands I genuinely buy from and I’ll admit, I’m a Laura Ashley girl. For me, it epitomises British quality. If I need a classic dress for a special occasion, Laura Ashley is my go-to. Their clothes not only last, but they fit me perfectly and hit my extra-long legs at the perfect spot. They’re totally worth the extra money, and actually have really great sales. For their blog post, I styled a simple white sundress. In a linen blend, it was light and airy, with a gorgeous full skirt. I teamed with their denim jacket, which is just dreamy – soft, soft denim, and such a flattering cut, I’ve worn it with everything since I received it. A denim jacket and a simple white dress is such a perfect summers day outfit, am I right?
I shot these photos last Sunday, after a stint in the pub garden. The sun was slowly getting lower in the sky and over on the village green just down the road, I rallied my Dad and his vintage car to get some quintessentially British snaps. For those interested, my Dad’s car is a Triumph TR6, a car he’s wanted since he was 18. His pride and joy, I thought it’d make the perfect prop for the Laura Ashley blog. For me, the classic British summers day is driving around the countryside, stopping off at the pub and picnicking at a hidden spot. I remember the summer I passed my driving test being just this – I swear it’s all we did all summer and for me, it’s what July and August are all about.
Although this post is titled ‘How to wear the white dress’, I actually think it needs little explanation. It’s got to be one of the simplest, yet chicest outfit options for any girl. There’s something about fresh white that looks so put together, and thought out but is so easy to wear (so long as you’re not going out for an Italian!). The denim jacket is a great cover up for when the night draws in, as is a colour pop scarf or a coloured suede jacket. Even a duster coat would look fab thrown over the top, in perhaps a navy or muted grey. I know white can seem daunting for some but I’m forever drawn to it!
