style: wedding guest outfit inspiration part 2 – the boho maxi

After part one of this series went down so well (find it here), I’m back with my second instalment.

Today I’m chatting through another option for summer weddings and that’s the boho maxi (or maxi/midi as it may be on me). I posted this dress last year, so can see there’s a common theme here – I adore dresses like this. For a start, they’re outrageously comfortable – never slim fitting, so no spanx required and they generally allow you to wear normal underwear up top too, meaning no sweaty strapless bra issues. Secondly, they’re just so classically beautiful. There’s such an array of these styles of dresses on the highstreet right now – everywhere you look, with so much choice on cut, pattern, length – it’s hard to go wrong! And lastly, you can wear them casually too – just slip on some flats and you’ve got an instant summer day dress (like this one here that I posted on my Instagram).

Today’s dress is from a shop I’ve known about for years but never delved enough into to make an order. You’ve probably heard of Shein – and if you haven’t, give yourself a good few hours to get lost in the website. It has everything. It’s the fasted updated online clothing store, with so many new styles daily, I can’t keep up! The pieces on there are so on trend, I swear half of them haven’t even made it to the UK highstreet yet! Aside from choice, Shein is also incredibly well priced – and granted, you have to accept the quality that comes with a cheaper price tag, but let me tell you – I could easily see this dress selling for £50+ on the highstreet. The site includes customer reviews and photos, so I’d always recommend reading those to ensure the item will be what you want, but I’ll admit, my summer wishlist is slowly growing!

I chose this particular dress for this instalment of the series because, well, it’s nothing short of beautiful! The pattern is so fun and colourful and I can’t tell you how many compliments it’s had. The material is actually really lovely – a soft cotton that gives a little and washes well. It’s the perfect dress in the heat and would be super comfortable to wear at a hot summer wedding. I’ve teamed the dress with nude heels as it’s got so much going on itself – I also think it would look great with some wedge espadrilles! I love the button detailing and the lower neckline and front split which balances the coverage out well. You’ll see on the website that it fits as a full maxi for most girls, but I actually love the length it is on me (I’m 6 foot for reference) – hitting somewhere between a midi and a maxi. Size wise, I was a little dubious as I had heard somethings from Shein can come up a little small, but I was pleasantly surprised and probably didn’t need to size up in this item afterall.

For me, dressing for weddings is all about comfort as well as style and this dress is such a hit for me. I’d highly recommend taking a look at Shein – it has some really unique pieces!

Oh and can we take a second for these photos – shot by Lizzie, are they not totally hilarious Teen Vogue vibes? You should see the outtakes of me getting up on that trailer…
