5 all-black wardrobe staples

If someone asked you to choose five items from your wardrobe, that were your absolute favourite, could you do it?

I put the pressure on myself, for this blog post, and on a particularly dull Tuesday afternoon, I wracked my brains – what five things could I not be without? Come rain or shine, there are items in every womans wardrobes that definitely have a minimal cost per wear. Sometimes, they’re more expensive pieces – saved up for tirelessly, and kept pristine for their outings on special occasions. Others are bargain gems, that turned out to be total wardrobe-wonders. My five wardrobe staples are a happy mix of the two – for me a staple might not be basic, it’s just something that I can’t do without. And do you know what happened? They all turned out to be black. True staples they must be! So, what are they?

Denim

Let’s take the first, and probably the most basic of items. Denim. Black denim in fact. I love a good pair of jeans, and for me black rocks it. Slimming, versatile, classic – I always have a black pair of jeans in my wardrobe. I love a head-to-toe black ensemble, and I adore how easily they’re dressed up with a heel or down with trainers. I wear mine to death and probably re-buy a pair every six months. In the past, I’ve dabbled in the Topshop Joni’s, ASOS Rivington and now actually have a pair from M&S. They’re my three favourites to date and are a definite wardrobe staple!

Rebecca Minkoff M.A.C.

This bag has been my trusty companion since I picked it up this summer. You can read about it in full in this post, but I didn’t realise quite how much use I was going to get out of it. I have a white Whistles clutch and between the two of them, I’m set for evening affairs. My Rebecca Minkoff made the cut today however because I do often use it casually, too. Big enough to house phone, purse and a bit of make up, it’s perfect for weddings and parties, as well as glam enough with it’s gold hardwear.

Strappy heels

If you’re a heel wearer, I’m sure you’ve got your classic black pair. Sadly, I lost my perfect pair this summer (I hope the taxi driver’s wife enjoyed them), but I replaced them shortly after. My style preference is the classic sandal – ankle and toe strap and not alot else. Some call them the ‘barely-there’, and for me, they go with absolutely everything. They look chic and classic and dress your black denim up so well!

Nike Free Run Trainers

Taking things down a notch, and something that graces my feet almost every weekend is my Nike trainers. Worn to death, these are my staple comfies. With a pop of colour, they’re a bit different to my other trainers (namely Converse and Vans). I like the sleek shape of Free Runs and love to team them with a tailored coat for a Scandinavian inspired look!

Leather jacket

And finally, it had to be my trusty leather jacket. Coming up for three years old now, this River Island number is a mixture of real and faux leather and is a really flattering and classic shape. I adore the mix of textures and I couldn’t be without this to throw over a dress on my way to a night out, or with jeans and Converse for a trip to the shops. Roll on spring so I can bring it out more!

What would your five wardrobe staples be?
