3 simple breakfasts for the sweet tooth

It’s no secret that I have a huge sweet tooth.

I could eat a sweet breakfast pretty much every day. It’s not often I crave savoury as soon as I wake up, unlike many. When I was younger, I used to find breakfast hard – often opting for a yoghurt and ending up hungry by 10am. As I’ve got older, and lived away from home, I’ve developed three breakfasts –  three sweet breakfasts, that keep me happy. I’ll be the first to admit, they’re not the healthiest you’ll ever stumble across and I don’t have this everyday, but equally, these can all be adapted to fit into my Slimming World plan when I’m on it, and eating sugar earlier gives your body chance to burn it off throughout the rest of the day. That’s what I tell myself, anyway…

Nutella Porridge

So let’s begin. First up, is probably the easiest. I like porridge but have always required something else with it – honey was the first thing I tried, but recently I’ve discoverd Nutella porridge. Just half a tablespoon (which is around 2/3 syns on Slimming World), with porridge oats and skimmed milk, makes a really delicious breakfast that keeps me full. To make the perfect porridge, I use 50g oats with 350ml of milk, on the hob, over low heat. I then swirl in the Nutella and it melts to make a creamy, chocolately breakfast.

Banana & peanut butter smoothie

Next up, is an old favourite. I’ve been having this for years and it’s a banana and peanut butter smoothie. For this, I slice a banana, add a tablespoon of peanut butter, shake in some porridge oats to thicken and top up with skimmed milk. I use my Breville Blend Active to whizz it all together and the combination of ingredients keeps me surprisingly full – much more so than a fruit smoothie. It’s perfect for on the go as well!

French toast

And finally, one for the weekends. French toast. This one, again, involves Nutella but you can top it with whatever you fancy. In a bowl, I place a dash of skimmed milk, an egg and some cinnamon. I soak a slice, or two, of bread in the bowl, making sure to soak both sides and that most of the liquid has absorbed into the bread. Spraying my pan with Frylight, I then pop the soggy bread into the pan and cook on both sides. When it looks done, I top with Nutella, berries, yoghurt – whatever I fancy, and enjoy the delicious naughtiness!

Healthy? Probably not. Yummy? Most definitely. All of these are super simple and perfect if you’ve got a breakfast sweet tooth!
