You know you’re getting older when homeware puts a hole in your purse instead of clothes. My sister took me to the new shopping mall that’s opened near her house, and after a quick lunch, we spent a rainy Copenhagen afternoon getting lost in the scandi shops.
Although I picked up the pictured day cream in & Other Stories, I didn’t have much joy in the way of clothes, having done far too much hauling back in the UK. I was instead waiting patiently for our trip to two homeware stores – Bahne and Sostrene Grene. Bahne houses a collection of brands under one roof – ranging from mid to high end prices. In there, I picked up the two tiles you can see – the marble effect and the Positive Thinking quote, for the equivalent of £2.50 each. As a notoriously expensive country, I was pleased the pieces I was drawn to didn’t break the bank!
My sister had warned me about Sostrene Grene – “like Tiger but more homeware”. A similar layout of winding shelves, it’s a pastel lovers dream. The perfect shop to pick up bits for the house you’d forgotten you needed, a birthday present or two (which I did), and a little treat (or five) to take home with you. I grabbed a few of the gorgeous patterned gift bags to take home for upcoming special occasions, kitsch little wooden pots and a tray, a new lunch bag for work (so practical…), a couple of notebooks I couldn’t resist and two pastel tea towels to replace our rather unattractive ASDA numbers at home. In all, my haul came to under £20, which is pretty remarkable when you’ve become used to the Danish price of things!
