mini break beauty bumpf

I think it’s safe to say we all hate packing. Going away is one of life’s treats but getting prepared is expensive, time consuming and usually plain boring.

He who would travel happy, must travel light

For my recent trip to Denmark, I had limited time to prep, which is usually the case with weekend breaks. I was packing the night before my flight and beauty wise, it was a case of what I already had in the bathroom. I thought I’d share my essentials with you today – those bits that I can’t do without and are a reasonable size to lug across the continent.

On a city break, washing my face thoroughly at the end of the day is a necessity for me. As someone who wears make up daily, and can get some serious breakouts if the city’s grime isn’t washed away properly, I swear by something simple. I’m currently using Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish in the Orange Flower and Chamomile scent which is super refreshing. It always makes my skin feel cleansed but not stripped, and I tend to double cleanse when I’m away to avoid spots! I finish any excess eye or lip make up off with Bioderma and this cute little bottle is the perfect weekend size. To finish up skincare, for long days out and about, I like to keep my moisturiser light under my make up. Avene’s Mattifying Fluid is perfect for a bit of morning hydration without the shine.

My hair is a bit of a pickle on holiday, and I’ll admit, I hate spending time on it when I could be out and about exploring. That said, I can’t bear looking back on photos with a dodgy do so I do insist I tame it in some way. My current shampoo favourite is from Greek brand Korres – a simple clarifying shampoo for dry hair with almond and linseed. I had to pinch some conditioner off my sister as my only bottle at home was 500ml, but I applied lashing of Garnier’s Ultimate Blends The Strength Restorer Serum to the ends post wash to allow for that necessary moisture injection. I love this serum/oil hybrid to tame flyaways once my hair is styled too.

My final beauty pick was a bottle of sun cream. Perhaps a little optimistic for Denmark, which has it’s own shade of Copenhagen grey, but worth applying nonetheless. My first foray in Piz Buin, I’ll admit I’ve got a very low factor but with the minimal amount of sun we experienced, it did the job!
