life: eighty plus one

Don’t moan about getting older, it’s a privilege denied to many

This weekend I hosted my first afternoon tea at our new house. My Nan, who was turning 81 on Saturday, was visiting from Essex for the weekend so the family came over to check out the new pad (of which you’re seeing a very select corner!), and chomp on some tasty treats.

I gave the cake, a classic Victoria Sponge, a trial run earlier in the week to test the new oven and then whipped this one up Saturday morning with some cream cheese frosting and fresh raspberries. We snacked on crumpets and jam first, with a pot of tea. We’ve opted for mismatched crockery in the house – rummaging through charity shops and car boots is my favourite pastime!
