The idea for this blog post popped into my head when I was doing my make up yesterday morning. As I reached for my Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Nudist, in fact. A regular on my lips.
Last Christmas I received a fair few beauty items as gifts, and also picked up a few more for myself in the sales. I actually rounded them up into a video at the time, which you can see here if you fancy. I thought today I’d take a look back at what I got and see how they faired me over 2014!
First up, lets talk about those Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks. Hands down my most used from all my presents, the tin comprised of Nudist, Fuschia-ristic and Plum Jam. They’re super glossy, so easy to wear and mega comfortable. Definitely easy going make up and an amazing buy if you’re thinking about getting some.
Next up, I wanted to mention Clarins’ The Essentials Palette. For me, this was my first foray into Clarins – both for make up and skincare. Although the palette looks the bees knees in the pan, with such a gorgeous range of nudes, I was left pretty disappointed with the shadows. The pigmentation, or lack of, was the main reason and although Clarins aren’t a hugely fashion focused brand, there’s subtle and then there’s useless. If I could even grab a touch of colour on my brush, I also found them really hard to blend. A total shame at £35.
Another true winner from last years beauty bits, and something I got myself in the sales for my make up artist kit was Urban Decay’s Black Market 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil Kit. I knew these would be fab as I already owned a couple, and I use them almost every time I make someone up. Soft, pigmented and easy to blend, they last for hours and I love the colour range. Worth the money!
The Tangle Teezer Aqua Splash is a permanent fixture in my shower these days and I use it most times I wash my hair. I brush through my conditioner with it to help moisturise bits of my hair that don’t usually see much product. It makes styling it after much easier too – my only complaint is it gets pretty slippery!
If you saw my video, you’ll know I got some drugstore make up from some American family that were visiting us last Christmas. One piece which I use alot is the Physicians Formula Natural Nudes Shimmer Strip, which I think is eyeshadow but I actually use it as a really subtle highlighter. The champagne nude shades all mixed together make a perfect touch for the top of the cheekbones and the cupids bow.
Looking back, it seems most of last years buys have served me well over the year. I’m just recently getting back into Soap & Glory’s The Powder Trip trio of blush, bronze and highlight too which went into hiding for a few months.
Which beauty bits from Christmas 2013 are you still using now?
