As the days are getting warmer, my skin is getting oilier and being in the make up industry, I can’t afford to have my mascara on my chin and my concealer on my eyelids. I took a vow that it was time to try and really combat the oiliness, and, taking into consideration my mid-range budget, I got some new skincare. There were plenty of high-end goodies I was desperate to splurge on, but needs must and when I spotted it was a 1/3 off French skincare on Escentual (throughout June FYI), I stocked up my stash with this little foursome.
French skincare has always served me well – it can be hit or miss but I feel like the middle of the road price reflects fairly decent quality so first up I went for a new cleanser. I opted for Bioderma’s Sebium Purifying Cleansing Foaming Gel which admittedly, I kind of regretted after realising too late it said ‘foaming’. Having said that, it barely foams on the skin at all and it’s lovely and refreshing. I find my skin feels much less moisturised than when I use my old balms and cleanser, but it never feels dry. It just feels clean and balanced.
For toner, I went for Vichy and this is their Normaderm Purifying Pore Tightening Lotion. This has a heavy alcoholic scent to it but it feels weightless and surprisingly gentle on the skin. I’ve used astringent toners before and really liked them – I guess that’s just personal preference, and again, my skin feels free from excess oils but not dried out when this is used after cleansing.
My new moisturiser is definitely the highlight so far of my new routine, and I went for La Roche Posay’s Effaclar Mat which is an anti-shine, anti-pore moisturiser. The gel-like texture sinks into the skin super fast leaving a refreshed but matte finish. It makes a smooth base for make up and I love how there is no moisture on the surface of the skin that intereres with make up application.
And finally, I opted for a mask specifically geared at oily skin and it’s the Avene Cleanance Mask. This is a clay mask, which is designed for blemish prone oily skin. Clay masks are well known for drawing out impurities, as well as halting sebium production which will clog pores. I’m yet to give this one a whirl but if it’s any good, I’ll be sure to post about it!
